Exciting News!

Finally, my first pattern got published on my dad’s 84th birthday , (June 1st). I am so excited about it. Horrrrray, It happend!

I am on the cloud 9 now . Since then I had few visits and add to favorite and queue which is normal. Since I am quite new in this industry and I am an unknown designer who happened to be so enthusiastic about Mosaic Crochet.

I had my pattern being tested by almost 25 people who were eager to test it. The pattern is in two versions and obviously the testers were free to choose any of them or make both.

I thought it would be nice to share the simple version here. But if you like to have access to the second version plus the charts, (and if you are more comfortable making projects by using charts like me) you can find them on my Ravelry store HERE and my Etsy shop HERE. Don’t miss out JULY PROMOTION!!!!

Once using the pattern please hashtag your progress or finished project in Instagram:

Materials:

I have crafted these two versions with different yarns. For making any mosaic crochet project you will need two distinctive colors.

For the first version I used cotton and two skeins of yarn have been used (weight of each color: 2*50gr skein) for each color.  For a complete cushion, you will need 200gr of each color.

Hook size: 3.5 mm

Measurement: 42 cm * 42cm

For the second version, I used Cake yarn and a hook size of 2.5mm. The measurement for this square is 30cm * 30cm.

You are welcome to use any yarn of your choice, but keep in mind that the finished size will depend on the yarn weight and hook size you use.

Abbreviation (US Terms):

Ch – Chain

SC – Single Crochet

DC – Double Crochet

HDC – Half Double Crochet

BLSC – Back Loop Single Crochet

FLDC – Front Loop Double Crochet

SL St – Slip Stitch

YO- Yarn Over

*.* – Repeat instructions between asterisks

Start with a magic ring and then16 HDC inside the ring + SL St +Ch 1. Because our project is a square, we should make our four corners first. Therefore, in Round 1 and all other Rounds, we will have SC+ Ch 2+ SC in each corner. Remember to chain 1 after sl st. in each round. Our pattern will start from the second chain in the corner.

Remember SC in Mosaic Crochet is Back loop only and DC is worked on the front loop of two rounds down below the same stitch with the same yarn color of the current round.

Round 1

With color A: After sl.st of the previous round ch1 and then *BLSC in the first St then chain 2 and SC in the same stitch. This will be our first corner. Then BLSC in the next 3 stitches* and repeat *.* to finish the other 3 corners. At the end of the round sl st and turn to color B and chain 1.

Mosaic Crochet is so addictive!

It’s been a while I am doing mosaic crochet and I try to convert each and every chart that I find on the internet into Mosaic Crochet. Some of the charts are not really made for this technique and I mostly have hard times to figure out how to adapt the new chart. I can’t say that these are my own creation as they were made by others, but I love and treat them as my own.

Mosaic crochet is so versatile but I still couldn’t find a way how to use more than two colors in the same pattern. I think it is impossible to get three or more colors involved. It’s a pity, cuz many Persian rugs have patterns of multi-colors and the beauty of these colors will fade away if you have to consider only two colors.

As many would say, Mosaic Crochet is so addictive. When you finish the first project, you can’t wait starting a new one. My husband gets angry when he sees I am thinking about a new pattern and have my yarn and hook with me everywhere I go. I love crochet but this new technique is so fascinating that I can’t stop learning and working on my new projects.

Working on my own patterns are in progress. I hope to complete and test them as soon as possible. Since I would start studying in University again as of this January hopefully and then I won’t have time to do Mosaic crochet again. I will continue teaching whatever I’ve learned so far on my Instagram page (@mahoorcrochet) and these tutorials are in my native language Farsi for Farsi speakers all over the world.

Here are some of my projects.

Hope you like Mosaic Crochet like me and try to improve your new skills. I will provide some tutorials in English too.

Geometric Shapes And New Patterns in Mosaic Crochet

Geometric shapes with thousands years of existance do not belong to anybody. They are universal and can be used for any purposes. In Mosaic crochet also we are dealing with these beautiful and symmetrical shapes. The combination and mixture of these shapes actually create a new form and style in crocheting. In my belief, we just use a new technique to repeat the same shapes created thousands of years ago by our ancesters. But can we claim that these are our own invention and creation? Can we say that these are our new design while we are using the existing patterns remained from the past?

It is better to say we are reusing these patterns by using new techniques to save the patterns for new generation. This is the appreciation and not simply copying the past!

Most of these Geometric Shapes and patterns do exist in the works of art as our heritage in my homeland, Iran. If you go to Isfahan, Shiraz , Yazd and Kerman( the oldest cities in Iran) you will see many beautiful Geometric shapes in old buildings. As a matter of fact, most of these shapes and patterns were designed and introduced by Iranian Mathematicians to the world.

These patterns were used by Persian artists of all ages. Persian rugs are the best example. We have different types of rugs such as Carpet( Farsh or Ghali), Glim, Jajim and Gabeh and many others.

I am trying to convert those existing shapes and patterns from Persian Rugs into Mosaic Crochet and I believe it is the only thing I can do at the moment to introduce those designs to other people all over the world.I have always been obssessed with rugs and their patterns since my mom was making Persian carpet herself and she thaught me how to read the patterns from the map and sometimes there was not a map for what she made and she did it by heart. I wish I could remeber those patterns. Of course converting those patterns into Mosaic Crochet is a tedious work since it needs counting and concentration and testing the pattern before even thinking to publish it so that others can enjoy using it as a different pattern. This is a new adventure and I know it takes time and needs research and I need to understand if these two different style are compatible and convertable or not.

Wish me luck.

Writing is my passion!

Many years ago I started to write about my immigration process and I had lots of audiences. For many years writing was like a hobby for me and it was like a retreat for me to express my feelings and emotions. I have always been passionate about writing but this is the first time I write in English which is not my first language!

I am so excited to publish my first post. This blog will be my new home to express myself. I am so happy to make new friends via this blog. In this blog I will talk about my obsessions in life. My family, Literature and art in general. If you wanna learn something about Persian Culture and Language and food and tradition, you are in the right place. Mahoor is the name of one of the seventh musical system in classical music in Iran. It’s mostly used for happy songs.

I love telling stories. So stay tuned since I will start writing the story of my immigration from the beginning.
